Durban’s road name changes have caused much controversy, confusion and consternation in recent months.

The municipality changed over seventy road names in the greater Durban area –  some to honour well known South African icons like Mahatma Ghandi whilst others seem a little strange (I expect to see an ANC Avenue should I ever visit Windhoek as Durban now boasts a SWAPO Street…)

Ethekwini Municipality did try to make the transition easier by leaving up the old signs below the new ones. This seems like a good idea, except when they don’t match the correct old and new names.
