One of Durban’s fairly new drinks spots is Moyo’s Pier Bar on uShaka beach. Situated on the end of the new pier, this modern two story structure hovers out over the waves. The Moyo African feel has been creatively interpreted by Gareth Henderson and his team and the Afro-Chic vibe is perfect for the cocktail and canape offerings featured on the menu.
Viewing Durban from the sea is a wonderful experience as you can see the landscape laid out in front of you from a vantage point we seldom get to experience. Sitting outside at Moyo’s Pier Bar is the closest you will get to this magnificent vista whilst on dry land.
Lounging about on the pier, strawberry daquiri in hand, watching the sky change colour and the lights starting to twinkle in the twilight is as close to perfect as sundowners get, if you ask me. There is a catch, however: the drinks are pricey, the service is slow and menu does not have much variety. This should stop you from going every week but shouldn’t deter you from trying it at least once. Do remember to take a jersey as it often gets cold out over the water after dark.
Moyo on the Pier is at uShaka Marine World. Contact them on 031 332 0606 or go to the Moyo website for more information.
