Decorex SA is hosting a new exhibition in Durban this weekend called Tastes and Trends. They promise lots of exiting-sounding things: decor, design, trends for kitchens and bathrooms (and many Durban homes are in need of new bathrooms and kitchens if our house hunting is anything to go by!), foodie delights and DIY instruction and kits for sale. There is also going to be a focus on going green and sustainability, which is such a big trend in all areas of life at the moment. I think that it is important that we try to do something to reduce our impact on the environment and there are lots of simple things we can do to make a difference. Hopefully some of these will be displayed at Trends and Tastes. I’ll report back.

Another interest of mine is the colour forecast and Plascon is the frontrunner in SA. They will be there with those wonderous walls of colour that make me feel like I’m in an episode of My Little Pony. You’ll find me there at some satge this weekend, imagining living in a rainbow-coloured house.

The exhibition will have a food market, a theatre and they promise lots of prizes up for grabs. There was also mention of an “invigorating wellness area” on the website which I hope I have correctly translated to mean “massages available”. I think it sounds like a good weekend outing: the girls can enjoy the decor, the boys the DIY and then meet up for some yummy grub. Tickets are reasonable too: R50 for adults, R40 for pensioners and students and R5 for kids under 12. DSTV subscribers can buy one get one free on presentation of your account.

It’s on at the Durban Exhibition Center (suddenly referred to as the ‘DEC’ simply to confuse those of us who have been here so long we used to go the the fleamarket there on Sundays) from 10:00 – 21:00 today, 10:00-19:00 on Saturday & Sunday and 10:00 – 18:00 on Monday.
