The Comrades Marathon is one of KZN’s most famous annual events and everyone has a Comrades story to tell whether it is about running the race yourself or a fond memory of an early morning start to go and cheer the runners on in a misty spot at the top of Polly Shorts or Botha’s Hill. I am sure running a Comrades is on many South Africans’ bucket list (although not on mine, it must be said!)
This year I know someone who is running. Ross Bedford is not only setting himself the challenge of finishing the marathon, he is hoping to raise R5000 for Pink Drive while he does it. Admirable, right?
“PinkDrive is a non-profit organisation that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering services to women across South Africa, particularly to those who do not have access to information on breast health. PinkDrive currently has two mobile breast units working in four provincial hospitals in Gauteng, serving some 1.6 million women,” explains the blurb on Ross’ fundraising page.
If you would like to donate towards this worthy cause and help Ross to achieve his double goal, please donate R30 by sending an sms to 42030 with the words “Race 503” and your name.
