I have been wracking my brains as to what to do for my 67 minutes for Mandela Day today and I finally landed on the idea of doing a post about some worthy causes that could use your support. I hope that by spreading the word about some of the things we can all do to help others will be a good use of my time in honour of Madiba.

The first cause is very new one: Savior Mission Life Visions

Savior Mission Life Visions is an organisation which focuses orphans who have been turned out of orphanages and places of safety after they turn 18. “SMLV exists to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation. It is our mission, our purpose, and our passion. We place parentless young adults into a paternally, structured environment, Residential-Homes, where they can receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, care and nurturing, and level guidance. All their physical, emotional and spiritual needs are met as young adults,” says SMLV.

SMLV is being funded by private individuals at this stage and they are calling for corporate sponsorships of products, corporate internships, skill set training and employment opportunities. Donations and contributions are also welcome. Please contact me on candicebotha@gmail.com for the bank account details.

You can find out more about SaviorMLV on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SaviorMLV

Savior Brand Co is donating a portion of the proceeds of every one of its products sold to SMLV. You can purchase their fabulous leather cell-phone, laptop and tablet covers and stylish bags at the i heart market. Here’s some examples of their products to whet your appetite:

My next good cause is a very easy one for us all to help out with! Every click on the button on this website www.barkingmad.co.za will help to feed a hungry animal. Put it into your ‘favourites’ and go and click every day. This is my darling Daschund, Daisy:

The other cause is also something a little different but easy to do.  Charli Wiggil and the Grade 8 technology students at Eden College have started an initiative to read and record stories for partially sighted children to listen to. The kids have created tactile pictures to accompany their audio recordings but you can help out by recording yourself reading a childrens’ story and sending it to Charli in MP3 format. Instructions can be found here.

I hope that my 67 minutes have inspired you! Happy birthday, Madiba.
