The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) is currently on, screening dozens of movies from all over the world. It is South Africa’s longest running film festval and is noted for its mix of features and documentary and support of local productions. A veritable feast of some of the best, most experimental and exciting cinema in the world, over 290 screenings will be held over the 12 days of the festival at 10 venues around the city including Gateway’s Cinema Nouveau, Musgrave Ster Kinekor, the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre at UKZN and the Luthuli Museum. 
The international flavour of the festival is a principle focus when films are chosen and there will be screenings of films made on six continents and in numerous languages, including many indigenous African languages. The first ever Venda film, Elelwani and South Africa’s debut 3D animated feature film, Adventures in Zambezia, will premier at DIFF. There will also be a series of Filmmarts, workshops, networking sessions and competitions.
Something which will appeal to many Durbanites is the Wavescape Surf Film Festival which, obviously, focuses on the art of surfing films and documentaries. This year Wavescape includes snowboarding and shark films, too.
