Makaranga is the place to be this weekend and on Saturday night in particular when they are holding the first Mardi Gras as part of the Festival in the Hills. Art in the Hills and Music in the Hills are both anticipated annual events in Durban and this year things have been cranked up a notch with the Mardi Gras turning the weekend into a real festival of fun and creativity.
The Mardi Gras starts at 4 o’clock on Saturday afternoon and there will be plenty of entertainment with stilt walkers, jugglers, dancers and acrobats wowing the crowds. Guests are encouraged to dress up and become part of the show, too. There will be Mardi Gras inspired food like gumbo on sale and a live music performance by Kevin Ellis to add to the atmosphere.
The regular elements of the festival will still be there so don’t miss out on the art exhibition and the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra’s performance in conjunction with local schools on Sunday.
The entire festival is a charity fundraising initiative by Rotary so you will be doing good whilst having fun.
